Lyudmilla Ignatenko (Jessie Buckley), a Pripyat resident, ignores warning about her firefighter husband’s (Adam Nagaitis) contamination; Valery Legasov (Jared Harris) lays out a decontamination plan, complete with human risks. On the podcast, Mazin breaks down how they filmed the divers scene with additional commentary from director Johan Renck. Sagal and Mazin talk about scenes that were left on the cutting room floor, how much of Jessie Buckley’s actions mirror the real Lyudmilla Ignatenko’s, and more.

The Chernobyl Podcast is produced by HBO in conjunction with Pineapple Street Media. Original music by Kaan Erbay.

Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgård and Emily Watson star in Chernobyl – the story about the 1986 nuclear catastrophe, and the sacrifices made to save Europe from unimaginable disaster.

  1. I’ve never been so engrossed with a show for every second that I watch it! 👏👏

  2. I admire their patriotism, I'm old enough to remember when Americans were just as patriotic instead of self entitled cry babies

  3. Great show. I've watched every episode three times.

  4. I dont understand why everybody is plain ignoring the fact that soviets always threw people under the blame train, and see Dyatlov, just as the KGB wanted, as a pure negative person. Come on people, check out his itnerviews, he is not some kind of a moron to throw people into the radiation. This negativity around Dyatlov is the only thing that is just wrong in the series.

  6. Let's ask HBO for another 7 seasons .. Season 1, Chernobyl. Season 2, a trip to Chechnya. Season 3 Nord-Ost. 4 season submarine Kursk. Season 5 Ryazan sugar. 6 season knowledge day .. September 1 in North Ossetia. Season 7, They are not there !! Or how to steal poluostpov! All of Russia will be grateful to you, people will wake up maybe !!

  7. i work in an auto shopp with no AC…… its going to be 90 degrees tomorrow
last Monday it was 75 degrees….

i understand working naked…… unfortunately, my boss didnt allow me to work with no shirt on and shorts last year….. so its gonna SUCK tomorrow

  8. I missed watching the first episodes. Does anyone know if HBO will be replaying the series?

  9. Really enjoying this tremendous ppdcast! Very interesting and makes the show even better. Thank you for doing it!

  10. television reached its peak.

  11. I remember when this happened, this series makes it a true horror movie but a real life event. My son wasn't born yet but we watched it together. Thanks!

  12. I viewed the lie about 2 children as a trump to get access for this reason: If she was not a mother and responsible for the children she could be kept in the dark and not allowed to see the husband. He was dead so if she was alone so be it. Move on with your life. If she had kids then empathy for the innocent would let them go in to see what she needed to do for the future of her kids. The other challenge was if she was pregnant and she lied so the staff has a concern for kids in both cases. They never had a concern for her future. of her happiness. Adults in communism are on their own.

  13. Can't wait for the dragons in the last episode. HBO don't break your winning streak of screwing up final episodes. DONT STOP BELIEVING!!!!!!

  14. I really enjoy this podcast, I love getting to hear the thought process behind this wonderful mini series. Thank you for giving us a real and genuine retelling of a tragic disaster!

  15. I lived throught each moment with the heroes of the film. Look likes i was there. I had idea to make a film with the same name. I passed courses of film directors. But you did it first and did it geniously. Thank you. Thank you from Russia.

  16. this series is made to look like the govt moved people out in a timely manner. this of course is bullshit

  17. I like how he describes the Russian surveillance state as "Orwellian" as if Animal Farm and arguably 1984 weren't literally criticisms of the soviet state

  18. Great job.. amazing show.. Ima write an essay on how this impacted me and get back with ya'll on the matter.. but for now….. timeless work.. epic, amazing, breatakind, mindboggling, words can't even describe your accomplishments in describing the nobility of the personel, the struggle all faced, and the tragedy as a whole… groundbreaking x 10 ^ nth – to say the least….. Thank you.

  19. 3:20 I wouldn't call that a mercy. She might not have been exposed to as much radiation if she didn't see her husband.
